Stila Color Balm Lipsticks - Amelia, Elle, Avery, Olivia, & Isla: Review + Swatches!

Alas, I am back to blogging again today after taking a little break from posting regularly. Sometimes life just gets in the way of things and I'm sure you all can relate. This blog is my passion though, and lately I've been focusing on ways to improve it and make it more visually appealing and user-friendly. Still working out the kinks, but you might be able to spot a few new changes! Anyway, I just thought I should touch base and also say thanks so much to those of you that stuck around! ;) Enough of my rambling, bring on the balms!

Stila has recently released a new line of lip products that have the feel of a lightweight balm with the pigmentation of a lipstick. Stila Color Balm Lipsticks are not just visually appealing- they have a pretty awesome formula as well. Keep reading for my thoughts, review, and swatches below...

Stila Color Balm Lipsticks come packaged in mirrored silver tubes with the brand's name featured in big letters across the side. I believe the color of the word "Stila" coordinates to the shade within, though it's not really accurate enough to base your shade selection on. When I first held these, I was surprised at how light they felt. I was expecting them to be heavier and more substantial, but honestly the packaging feels a bit lacking considering their $22 price tag. I should also note that the exterior tends to scratch fairly easily when tossed around, though I'm pretty hard on the makeup in my handbag so it might just be a result of my carelessness.

What Stila says about the Color Balm Lipsticks:

"A modern take on traditional lipstick, this creamy lip color provides the full pigment load of a lipstick, yet delivers the nourishing properties of a balm.

Featuring a luxe, satin finish, this formula offers excellent color payoff while phyto-derived emollient properties deliver hydrated, healthy lips. Naturally cooling peppermint oil provides a fresh and rejuvenating sensation on the lips, while an exclusive certified organic sunflower-based polyglyceride soothes, smoothes, and adds volume and definition to lips."

The Color Balm formula is a winner in my book. These feel like a reasonably hydrating balm but unlike most other balm products on the market, they retain the pigmentation comparable to that of most lipsticks. As someone with constantly dry lips, I often have trouble finding lipsticks that not only look good on but feel comfortable too. That being said, you can probably see why these have been a welcome addition to my collection.

I'm not sure about the claim of adding volume to the lips though, since I don't really experience a change in my lip size with these. However, the sheen does give off the look of fuller lips so I can understand where they're coming from. The peppermint oil adds a nice minty fragrance to the lipsticks- not overpowering at all though. It's subtle. In my experience I found them to have a minimal tingling sensation that goes away shortly after application.

All shades have a satin finish with a noticeable sheen. I absolutely love this type of finish with lip products because it gives lips that juicy, hydrated look. With this finish you typically see about 3-4 hours of wear and Stila's Color Balms wore about 4-5 hours on my lips, which isn't bad at all considering how nice they feel. I've never been fussy about throwing a lipstick in my purse and reapplying as needed. My purse is generally a haven for the past month's lip selections.

As far as the shade range goes, I think Stila's selection has something for everyone. There are a number of wearable neutral nudes and pinks as well as some lovely corals and peaches that just scream Summertime. They even include some shades that aren't as commonly found among other brands. I know I have my eye on Gemma, the gorgeous shade of violet pink that looks so wearable despite its more daring hue... And Valentina is a stunning shade of poppy orange that looks to be more unique than other orangey lipsticks I've seen on the market.

Side note: I'm currently obsessed with orange everything this season. It's always been my favorite color, but lately brands have been releasing orange lip products, blushes, eyeshadows, you name it! Whether or not I can pull off those products is neither here nor there, because I'm going to try and rock it out anyway. ;)

So me being the makeup hoarder and shopoholic that I am, I picked up five of Stila's Color Balms:

Amelia: I say it's a medium rosy pink. The actual shade description is pink taupe. Taupe?!? I see no taupe. Am I blind? Is this an undertone thing again? I may never master color theory, but this one in particular should flatter most skin tones.
Elle: a vibrant bubblegum pink with hints of coral. If you're looking for a brighter but still wearable pink, this one is lovely.
Avery: a soft peachy coral shade. I love this one so much! I'm not sure if it's exclusive to ULTA but that's where I found it.
Olivia: a warm nude that doesn't make me look dead. Hooray!
Isla: an extremely flattering peachy pink. My favorite of the five I own. It's perfect for this season! My swatch does it no justice so I might have to insert a photo of me wearing it down below.

Bottom line: You should definitely stop by your local Sephora (It's Chic Week! Everything is 15% off right now using promo code: CHIC) or ULTA and have a look (swatch session anyone?). You might just find yourself loving these like I do! An awesome range of shades to fit any style with a great formula makes for a swoon-worthy product in this case. I'd love to see Stila release a vivid retro red shade in this line. Prettyyyy.

What are your thoughts on Stila's new lipstick formulation? Have you tried these yet? I'm a big fan and can surely see myself getting some of the other shades in the future. For now I'm a bit preoccupied with Dior's new Addict/Addict Extreme releases... I may or may not have ordered most of them haha. Dior Addicts are my weakness! But more on that later. ;)
